Another option is to take the New York Airport Service Shuttle to Grand Central Station, and then take a Metro North Railroad Train to the New Haven railroad station. If you use this option, be sure that your destination is New Haven, and NOT New Haven-State Street.
A third option is to take a shuttle from a New York airport to Penn Station and connect to an Amtrak train to New Haven. Amtrak trains are more expensive. www.amtrak.com
