Unite For Sight's Global Impact Fellows combine high-impact service with an immersive global health learning experience in developing countries. They engage in a structured global health training program while working with local doctors to eliminate patient barriers to care. Upon successfully completing the program, they receive a Certificate in Global Health & Program Delivery from Unite For Sight's Global Health University.
Prior to traveling abroad, Global Impact Fellows complete training in Global Health, Social Entrepreneurship, Issues in Medication Management, Community Eye Health, and other related topics.
Upon arriving abroad, Global Impact Fellows have an immersive global health experience in which they assist with village outreach programs that are led and managed by local healthcare professionals.
Global Impact Fellows learn from the local healthcare professionals and gain a comprehensive understanding about best practices, the complexities and realities of global health, and effective evidence-based strategies in global health and program delivery.
Summary of Educational Objectives of the Global Impact Corps
Participate in an immersive global health experience alongside local healthcare professionals in Ghana, Honduras, or India, and learn first-hand about patient barriers to care and effective, evidence-based healthcare delivery.
Be engaged in cutting-edge global health and community eye care programs that are reducing patient barriers to care.
Gain a hands-on understanding about best practices in global health and be aware that good intentions are not enough.
Work with partner eye clinics' talented ophthalmologists who are social entrepreneurs addressing complex global health issues. Global health is best learned from local social entrepreneurs and local clinicians who are directly involved in eliminating health and education disparities.
Be immersed in the field of social entrepreneurship and understand the opportunities and challenges facing social entrepreneurs and clinicians in developing countries.
Develop strong skills in cultural competency, ethics, professionalism, interpersonal communication in the health setting, and community eye health.
